golfs321
im building the lamiglas smb1083m its a 9' one piece and glass rated 1-3 ounces. Ill be using it to throw bombers in inlets and rocky areas. Can anyone recommend guide sizes/spacing for this blank? Im wrapping it spinning for use with a penn 5500 and 30 pound braid. I havent wrapped this blank before so any info would be awesome!
MTfishingrods
I believe Mud Hole has some spacing charts and guide kits on their site. I would recomend using them if you can find them. I space mine according to the action of the rod, but would not know how to begin to explain how to do it on here. Maybe Matt will come along shortly, he seems better at putting these things into words than I am.
Mattman
I too space mine by the action of the rod. I haven't used a guide spacing chart since about my 3rd or 4th rod. Honestly, I'd love to tell you how to do that, but I can't. It really comes from having experience in setting up a lot of rods and just knowing where you'll need to be. A chart would be a good place to start. And on really unknown blanks, I sometimes use a chart to get started. Usually just looking at it and seeing the pattern of how they space. When I've placed my guides I would then run line thru the guides and put the rod into a good flex. Look at the relationship of the line to the guide rings. If the line is entering/exiting the guide at something greater than a
Mattman
I just realized I messed up a little with this info...typing too fast I guess. My first smallest guide is placed 27 times the spool diameter away from the spool. NOT my first guide. Sorry for that...
