floatfly
another problem i am having is with the powder paints. i heat them then dip in the fluid bed then bake them at 200 deg for 20 min. the weed guard was installed when poured. i fished yesterday afternoon and after about 10 cast it looked like a beaver and chewed the paint off the bottom of the jig. what am i doing wrong? thanks for the help
Basseducer
If you are using lower temps to save the poured in place weedguards you may not be reaching the required temp for the required length of time for a good cure. Check your paint info for these specs. You will probably end up pouring and painting without weedguards and gluing them in later. Uncured or improperly cured powder paint chips like glass. floatfly
thanks i guess that is what i will try next, do you paint with the weedguard pin in place? if u take it out how do you clean the hole out to glue the weedguard? smalljaw
If you are buying jigheads with the weedguard in place and don't have a problem painting them, then all you need to do is increase the temp to 250 degrees and cure for 30 minutes, then after it is cured apply a top coat of epoxy and you'll be set. cadman
thanks i guess that is what i will try next, do you paint with the weedguard pin in place? if u take it out how do you clean the hole out to glue the weedguard? If you want to take the existing weedguards out this is what to do. Take a pair of pliers, firmly grab the jig with a thick pair of leather gloves, and grab the weedguard with the pliers and pull out the starnds. Do this to all the jigs. Usually everything will come out clean with strands and glue. If there is any glue residue, take a drill bit about the same size as the existing hole and slowly drill out the glue with a cordless drill......I do not paint with the base hole pin in the jig............I just paint the jig and then take a drill and slowly clean out the hole from paint and then glue in the weedguard. Hope this helps. If you need more help on this you can PM me and I can explain it in better detail.
