Split tail Stick baits

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone had ever made split tail stick baits ala Snackdaddy Snackstix. Basically a 5" stickbait with the last 2" sliced as if with an "egg slicer". Looks somewhat like a long tube, but solid like a Senko.

Either looking for another company that makes them or possibly a tool for making my own. Yes, a razor blade would work, but would be time-consuming.

Appreciate any info you all have.

The easist way to do this is with a tube tail cutter. You can buy an inexpensive one at Lurecraft, this one is fine for personal use. For larger volume, an arbour press with a set a larger set of blades would be quicker. Keep in mind you will need to pull the bait out slowly as the plastic used for stick baits is softer than what is used for tubes. Also use worm oil to lube the blades, this keeps the tails from sticking as much.

I have made the bait for 5 years. Snackdaddy copied it. I was in Janns first so they only sold mine. I cut with an air cutter . I run 2 of them and cut 30 - 60 baits at a time. They do work very well but they are twice the work. pm me if you want

thanks

The bait was out before smackdaddy started them as they org. came from a guy in western washington. in 1999-2001, he was a semi pro that fished the columbia river BASS events and used them on Smallies, they were a killer bait.

He used the 4" Silver/white senko and cut 2.5" of tail on it.

@Tubeman: Thanks for the info. Exactly what I needed to know. As it happened, I had a bit of inspiration as I was eyeing the wife's eggslicer thinking of how I could modify it.

I went to Ace and picked up a pack of five universal utility blades. The universal blades have two holes already drilled in them. Then I used four tackle box dividers as spacers after drilling two holes in each to match the blades. Two #6 machine screws through the holes and nuts to cap it off. A functional Split tail maker. Does it work? Yes. Is it fast? Definitely not. Will have to post a pic.

@smallheadz: Will send you a pm. My homemade tool will get me by for next tournament, but it's much easier to order them. They are tedious to cut.

Zbass: Thanks for the link to other split tail. Looks a bit like a Beetle. I'll bet it works dandy as well.

Kid, talk to Bojon before you do anything else. His cutter is the best out there for what you need, and it's fast too. JIM
