Celticav
I hate these things, I was nearly soaked by one of these saturday when it and the idiot driver went by at 50 miles an hour between our boat and the no-wake buoy. He then proceeded to do donuts around the buoy itself for several minutes, whats up with these people and why are they allowed to breed? alsworms
A friend of mine once did 6 months in jail and 2 years of community service for hooking a jetskier with a Zara Spook. NO JOKE :!: :!:
Big Splash
I'd say if the jet ski was within range of my spook he had better watch out for more than my lure!! We have a bunch of new boating restictions here in Canada because of jet skiers and thier foolhardy antics( now I need a licence to operate my 12' alluminum boat). A few summers ago I chased a bunch of these idiots away from a public beach after they decided to make high speed passes, spaying the kids with water. A three foot long chunk of 2x4 with a bunch of rusty old nails in on end launched in thier direction was enough to alert them to the danger they faced! After telling the story to a friend , he said a few weeks before an old man was beaten with a shovel by several kids after a similiar confrontation! Have you guys seen the news footage of a "save the Whales" activist (20 something woman)who gets run over by a Coast Guard vessel here on the west coast? The natives were conducting a legal hunt with harpoon and canoe, and were closing on a humpie for the kill. A woman on a jet ski (no doubt launched from a nearby activists boat) tried to dissrupt the hunt by zooming between the canoe and the whale, then turned to make a pass at the canoe, spraying the hunters. As she turned to make another run, focused on the canoe, she runs right under the Coast guard boat as it speeds in to protect the whalers! I thouhgt she was lucky the natives didn't protect themselves with the long sharpened blades of the war paddles (deadly weapons). She suffered a broken collar bone, and was charged with interfering with the hunt. She agreed to take a less active roll in saving the whales! I laugh out loud each time I see this footage. Mercury
You should have the same right as a hunter does while hunting. If a snow mobile, 4 wheeler or anyone in general interfeers with a liscensed hunter they should be arrested and charged. We had a small jet boat (made by wave runner) get run over by a fountain boat 2 miles up river from me just because they were jumping the wakes of larger crafts and ended up dead as the 4 props did a number on them. (And the darwin award goes too.....) The sad thing is the mother of the 3 late teens is suing the larger boat driver even though her son "that was driving" was going against 2 lanes of traffic, not giving common curtesy to other watercraft. and speeding. Sad to say the trauma to the larger boat's driver ended his 20 year enjoyment of boating due to a brainless act of another.
Celticav
that is a truly sad story and should help advocate more laws on the use of these things
Big Splash
Unfortunately these laws will effect all other opperators of small craft, here in Canada anyway.
alsworms
The thing that sucks is jetskiers and waterskiers KNOW us fisherman hate 'em......that's why they do the things they do. Come about 2:00 in the afternoon, you get a boatload of jetskiers who have had one too many beers, and they think of nothing better to do than annoy us. You don't see us fisherman saying....."Man that looks like a great point.....right by that jetskier......let's go!!!"
chirmy
Al, Your buddy must have hooked em good ). On Mead you dont see to many of the blokes as the Lake is Huge. but when you do get in and around them at certain holes they are a pain. We had to fight with them to keep the park service from banning certain parts of the lake. get this, the park service in the verbage rather than ban pwc's placed a limit on horsepower thus banning any boat over 65 hp on major portions of the lake. Yep show me a bass boat that meets that limitation.
