bobG
I'm pouring large (9") sluggo style baits, and I'm getting intermittent surface bubbles. I'm pouring into a POP mold with 5 cavities. I'll pour all my baits, and after a minute, the bubbles appear? Sometimes it occurs in all 5 baits, other times in only a couple. I thought my plastic was too hot, so I'd let it stand a few moments before pouring. No difference. I thought I was pouring too fast, that wasn't it? Somehow I have a feeling the 'lumina' powder might be the root of this, but I can't be sure. It doens't effect the way the baits fish in any way, they just don't look perfect, and I'd like to do better. Thoughts?
Vodkaman
The surface of the PoP mold is not sealed properly. Give the cavity another coat. PoP is very porous. Any fault in your seal coat, the air in the mold material expands and forces its way through the fault in the seal coat, resulting in bubbles. longhorn
I agree with Dave. Give the mold another coat of seal. When this happens to me I mark the problem areas of the mold and can usually see the pinhole. Just part of POP mold making.
jake4321
Bob G I hope you don't mine me asking this question on your thread, I thought it might be relevant. I too have the similar bubble issue when pouring sluggo's, just poured with this mold the first time today. I have a POP mold and sealed it with glue/water mix, this was all done sometime in May. I must have used 4 coats of the sealer mix at the time Since I already sealed it with this mixture, can I reseal it with something better? Or just add more coats of the same? Is there something better to reseal with? BOBG, I was curious what you sealed your with?

About a week back, I took out all my POP molds, and applied 3-4 additional coats of 50/50 Elmers Glue and water. Brushed it on, let it sun dry, brushed on some more, etc. The molds became noticably shinier. Guess what? I just poured some sluggos today, and they were perfect, no bubbles. Looked like factory baits. Not to mention, the baits practically fall out of the mold when cooled. Edited September 12, 2009 by bobG

longhorn
If you're going to brush it on a big open mold like a sluggo I would use straight Elmer's with no water. I use the Elmer's water mix for flooding...when I'm brushing I use straight Elmer's. Will take less coats that way. Some molds take only one coat. gone2long
Has anyone tried the glazing for ceramics? paint it on heat it up and it turns to like glass? Or will the POP suffer during heating?
