Coley Posted February 4, 2004 Author Report Share Posted February 4, 2004 Yea, Funny Farm, I bought it from a guy on the Ark. I bought it when I was 18, from a guy that really needed a drink. I also have a reel called a "Flip Reel". It's an open face spinning reel that has a lever on top of the gear housing at the rear. When this lever is opened you can flip the reel from a left hand to a right hand operation. But, the really unique feature is no matter which direction the handle is turned the line comes in. You can be turning the handle forward as fast as you can and start turning it backwards as fast as can without stopping. And you can turn the handle back and forth and the line comes in. Very unique. The serial no. is 8431. Could you advise me of a good value for this reel. The reel is new, about 1963 is when I bought it. Thanks, Emory Cole Here is his reply, I nearly fell out!! Hi, It sounds you have a wonderful item with you. You are right on the date. That was produced in 1963. (First production was on 1962. And your item belongs to the second production.) The value of the item in unused( new) condition should be approx. $2,000.00. It was $99.00 in 1963. Delw Posted February 18, 2004 Report Share Posted February 18, 2004 WOW Thats a nice reel. I still have mine from the early 70's 5000, 5500c 6500c 6000 they are in mint condition too. I used them for steelhead and salmon in the rivers. Don Iovio(sp) collects those reels also so you miught want to check with him as well.
