mifon
I need a new mold for weedless jigs. I will be using these jigs to flip and pitch in and around wood. I already have a football jig mold. I would like a jighead similar to the BooYah or StrikeKing. Which of the Do-It molds would be best for this? Are there any other molds available that I might consider???
smalljaw
Go with the poison tail jig, it performs extremely well around wood cover and the hook up ratios for me are great with this jig and I think that is because it uses an EWG hook. Another good jig that I like is the Snootie jig, I like that jig for fishing grass or swimming over limbs and laydowns, it has a little different fall than most jigs and that seems to entice alot of strikes. cadman
If I had a choice of only 4 jigs, I would buy molds in this order. #1 Poison Tail #2 Snootie #3 Football #4 Arky Smalljaw hit it dead on with the top 2. I started fishing the Poison Tail and the Snootie this year and my bass count has risen dramatically. Not always big fish but more fish. I have been using a smaller jig 1/8 oz with the EWG hook. I can put an EWG hook on all of those jig molds. Put on a trailer, and it is a deadly combination. I think the EWG hook has better hook-up percentages, and the smaller jig has a slower fall. It has definitely brought more fish in my boat this year.
mifon
Thanks Smalljaw and Cadman. I have all the molds on your list, Cadman, except the Poison Tail. I think I'll give him a try. This mold is listed as taking a 28 degree 91768BLN Mustad hook. Does Gamakatsu make a hook that will fit this mold, or are you using this hook? Now I just need to figure out how and where to fish the Snootie and Poison Tail and which sizes fish best.
Jig Man
I have been using the PT mold this year and find it to be very good. I use the Mustad hooks. I bought both molds and find myself using the heavy ones (1 and 3/4 oz) as often as the lighter because they swim better bumping the bottom around stumps and rocks. I do however have a Gami non- EWG that will work in the 1/2 to 1 oz. sizes of this mold. The hook was a special order. If you're interested PM me. You will like the Mustad hook they work well in all the Poison Tail cavities.
smalljaw
I'm not sure about finding a Gamakatsu to fit the PT mold but I can tell you this, I've been using a Gammie for my 3/8oz snootie jigs and I went back to the Mustad hook because the Gammie hooks do not work well in cover, if you set the hook on a limb or rock the mustad is still sharp and the gammie is junk, its that very reason I stopped using them on spinnerbaits but you can't beat the gammie for crankbaits, they hook fish when they just sniff your bait. Smalljaw, I will agree with you. I am not a big fan of Gamis. I did it as a favor for a customer. I am a fan of Mustad hooks. Also I've never used Gami trebles on my crankbaits, but based on your statement, they remind me of the Mustad Triple Grips. Really sharp out of the box, and I've seen these hooks imbed in the fishes skin after they missed the crankbait. All my crankbaits have Triple Grip hooks.
