cadman Posted October 11, 2009 Report Share Posted October 11, 2009 I have about 100 broken, ripped, clawless Paca Chunks. Can I re-melt these and make some other type of plastic bait. Will the plastic properties still be the same when I re-melt them (ie softness, texture etc.) What would be the easiest way to do this. Thanks for the help. BBK Posted October 11, 2009 Report Share Posted October 11, 2009 Cut them in small pieces with a pair of scissors and re-melt them. They will smoke a little so be prepared for that. Otherwise they should be the same as they were before, I usually get 3-4 re-melts out of plastics before they just burn instead of melting. gcl58 Posted October 11, 2009 Report Share Posted October 11, 2009 use an old blender, take a file or a knife hand sharpener and sharpen the blades, cut up old plalastic in 1-inch cubes and put in blender and add new plastic, the more the better. you can grind it to a oatmeal look and then pour and remelt. i stock pile all of my stringers and grind and reshoot at the end of the month. you can create some nice colors, my personal fishing lures come from second shoots due to the color mixing i can do with the old plastic. people who fish with me start offereing extra bucks to get to my personal lure box and buy. go slow on the heat up of used plastic, the new plastic helps on a even remelt. dont worry about cleaning the blender just use paper towels, my plastic blender is in its 5-th year, about the blades, metal flake will dull the blades, i run a hand shapner a couple of times acrooss the blades before each use. make sure your hand is on the lid at all times, you will eventually get in a hurry and start putting larger cuts in the blender with out the lid you will look as some one took a big puke on you. mine was a flouro orange Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have been using a bunch of old plastic lately to enlargen some tubes. When the old stuff is cooled off I have to cut a bunch of salt off the bottom even though I stir it often.
