raywillett
Need help with using prism tape on my balsa crankbaits. Every time I attempt to use prism tape it peels on the edges when I dip in my sealer. thanks
crankpaint
put down a sealing coat first so the tape has a flat smooth surface, then after that drys put on your tape and put some super glue along the underside at the edge of the tape that should help
pizza
Prism tape works best on flat surfaces. Does not hug to contours very well. Even on flat sided cranks the edge of the tape can be tough getting smooth epoxy finish. Multiple epoxy coats with fine sanding at edges bw coats helps. I think the tape adhesive(at edge of tape) may have something to do with this(difnt chemical properties with epoxy, they dont like each other....or something...) goood luck, i know exactly what you are talking about. Ive used the janns tapes as well as the 2" spoon tape (cant remember brand off hand). //super glue will more than likely mess up the finish, but ive never tried it in this application. RayburnGuy
What type of sealer are you using? It could be having a reaction with the adhesive on the edges of the tape. If the edges of the tape are completely down and holding before you dip it in the sealer you might try brushing on a coat of an epoxy like Bob Smith 30 minute, D2T 30 minute or Etex. Epoxies are pretty inert so they don't usually react in a negative way.
