cutting tube skirts

Recommended Posts

does anyone have a good method for cutting tube skirts..

I thought I would try my hand at a few while the fishing is still slow..

I have cut some with razor blades.. single edge.. but I'm not happy with them.. I figure someone has a good way to make them look even and

straight..

thanks for any help

You can build your own cutter with a can crusher, carpet blades, and a piece of "u" metal. first, drill 2 holes on each side of the u chanel so a screw will fit into the slots on the carpet blades. Next set the first blade in place and run the screws through the slots, placs a spacer next then anouther blade, spacer, etc. After you have all the blades in place and spaced, mount the u chanel to the top of the crusher. You will need some gum rubber on the base for the blades to cut all the wat through the tube. You can build this for around $20.00. Hope this helps.

Search for tube cutter, and similar in the archives and you should find detailed info on how to build a 'rotary" cutter. Best I have tried so far. Think I may have posted a pic in the soft bait section of the gallery. If not check my yahoo photo page for parts, and finished product:

Make sure you really want to make your own tubes. I got into it, then got mostly out of it, as it is a major PITA to do on any significant scale. Could not really say my tubes were better than those already availble once I jumped thru all the hoops.

I did the search last night and browsed throught some threads and could not tell for shure what type of cutter was being used, the pic healped alot. So they go back and forth with the little wheel? Doesnt see like it would work that great, but with 10 wheels like I read in the other posts it might be ok.
