miragestalker
I am about to begin painting my lure. I just want to confirm that I got the info right before I begin. I sealed with D2T. Is that right? Can I also seal with ETEX? Is purpose made sealer any better? I will be topcoating with ETEX. Thanks!
BobP
Epoxy is one of the best sealer/waterproofers IMO. I use Devcon 2 Ton cut with a little lacquer thinner, then lightly sand it to remove the gloss before painting. ETEX already contains solvent and should work well, it just takes longer to cure. Epoxy can give you a really smooth, waterproof, durable undercoat. And you don't have to worry about it being incompatible with other coatings. dtrs5kprs
Have never sealed bare wood with a clear coat. Have always used one of the polyurethane type dips from Home Depot (Minwax, I think, would have to look at the can). Usually let it dry and sand lightly to lower any places where the grain swelled, then add a clear coat, cure, then paint.
BassinMaumee
Just use a sandable wood sealer!
miragestalker
Minwax Protect for sealing and Etex on top. Thanks! /bing
Matt Moreau
Minwax Protect for sealing and Etex on top. Thanks! /bing I have used the Lacquer thinner and plastic cup method for awhile now... seems to work ok but thinned devcon is the best IMHO. finlander
I have used the Lacquer thinner and plastic cup method for awhile now... seems to work ok but thinned devcon is the best IMHO. I used a 2 part epoxy and a thinner, equal parts, mixed together, for the first time last night. Cedar wood fibers swelled a bit. Will have to sand it down smooth before painting. On another I used Kilz unthinned. That just lays on top. Took awhile but the 2-part did set up. This was my first try at it. I have always used Etex on top, minimum of 2 coats. woodieb8
on more pourous woods i recommend sanding sealer. it will save hardships.. we dip the complete lures after drilling and cutting lip slots. , and eyeholes.
