Sent Experment ?

Recommended Posts

I'm taking a chance you soft plastic guys with all the successes and failures, {with adding your own sent's} you could steer me in the right direction. I make hand made craft hair and animal hair jigs and I want to make a sent... with coffee and anise...I may have misspelled that and I need for it to be in some form of a bee's wax or some type of soft plastic like chapstick to rub between fingers and apply to the hair. I would think the sents being applied into the melted wax maybe not that hard...but I need some ideas where to look for help and the diffrent sents to add...maybe someone has already done this and wouldn't mind giving a hand...thanks

There's an old fly fisher's trick to make fly floatent. You take parrafin and melt it then add kerosene. After it congeals you can apply it to the flys.

You should be able to do this with the bee's wax and "concentrated" scent.

Hope this helps.

Punisher makes just what you are talking about or are you just trying to make your own? Here's a link:

I know Punisher well, I have a VERY small jig.....fly company in two tackle shops localy and have already sold enough jigs to pay for all my equipment materials and so on, the shop owner wants me to put a little gift package together and wondered IF I might could make my own fish attractant wax based and see if it goes over well.I think I can figure out the sents its the jelly or wax base I don't know what it is if it can be melted i can add sents and hope it reconsitutes?? I'm grasping at straws got to start somewhere! I would love to come up with something that will work

Seems like the Kero would drive the fish off? I'm up for trying anything if it will work! Thanks

you can also use vaseline to add your scent to. heat the vaseline until it becomes liquid then add your scent then let cool back down until it becomes solid again. although you might want to check your state laws to be sure you can use it since it is petroluim based and you dont want the EPA knocking on your door to give you a fine for poluting the water. but im guessing beeswax would work about the same and im sure it alot safer for the enviorment

Fisheye,

As someone has already said, oil based scent will work with candle wax. It should do just fine with beeswax. Make sure it's an oil based scent, melt a small amount of wax down. Add your scent. Let it set up, you should be able to tell whether or not you've got enough scent to the wax by experimenting this way. If you feel like it's too much scent add a little more beeswax. You might also try whipping some air into it before it sets up. It might make it easier to apply to your flies. I'm really not a fly fisherman, but just by a common sense look at things, this should work.
