You just answered your own questions! That's exactly what it is.

Drop a 1/4" nut in the bottom of your colors and that will help get it mixed when you shake it up. As far as the plastic goes, different brands require different measures of mixing. Some "hard pack" on the bottom. What a lot of guys do is to get a small paint mixer and stick it on the end of a drill to get things mixed. Some others just give it a shake or two to get it mixed. I agree with the other replies and think that your issues will be solved when you get things mixed up good.

There isn't any hardener in the colorant, that's pigment that has settled. Like zbass said, put a 1/4" nut or 2 in the colorant bottle to help agitate it. I also warm my colorant in the microwave a little to help soften the stuff on the bottom if the bottle has been sitting for a while. 10 - 15 seconds is usually enough for a 2oz bottle and be sure to loosen the cap before you heat it.

As far as your plastic being like jello, how soon aftr you pour are you checking it? It takes a minute or so out of the mold to really set well.

Capitol, it sounds like you've got couple things going o here. First with your plastic, I think you've got what's called hard packing. You really have to mix this stuff well especially if it's been sitting around for awhile. Put a few nuts and bolts in the jug and that will help with the mixing. If you have a paste on the bottom of the jug, that's the hardener that's settled down. You may have to scrape it off the bottom and them mix it with paint mixing paddle or something . Once you get it blended again this should solve your plastic problem, just keep it mixed well. I use Calhoun's and never have any problem with it.

Second, your colorant. It's settled too. If you'reshaking it and it's still not mixing you might try mixing a little MEK in it to get it liquid again. MEK is short for a chemical called Methyl Ethyl Ketone. You can find at a paint store or maybe Lowe's or something similar. When I looked for it though, I could only find it in the gallon continers so it wasn't worth it to me. It may be cheaper to buy new color unless you can find it in smaller quantities.

Hope any of this helps, JIM
