bluegrasslover
Ok, I've gone through about 1/2 qt of plastic trying to duplicate Wave Fishings Watermelon Red Flake Tiki Stick. Is there anything you can use, like some kind of clear oil to try and match colors with instead of wasting plastic? This is what I'm trying to make Watermelon Red Flake if anyone has a recipe for it. I'm using LC plastic, colors, etc. LC watermelon is way too green. I've tried adding LC pumpkin seed with the watermelon but it's either too green or too brown. I'm also tried using salt flour to lighten it up. Thanks, Greg
BBK
Just do what I do. Take all your scrap, dye it black, make sticks out of it, and sell them on ebay! As for that recipe, you just have to keep trying to get it right. Make sure you measure out your plastic, salt, and coloring precisely so you can duplicate it. What I have may work great but I won't know until I try it. There's a local golf course lake that's loaded with lunkers and they love the watermelon red flake tiki sticks. You may not need to add any other colors with it. www.novalures.com

I have a Wintergreen color I developed that is in the color area you posted I think.

Just like a regular worm or more like a swim bait? Thanks, Greg
gunnie3035
I would start by clouding up the plastic with a drop or three of white. Then add your watermelon green and perhaps a little chartreuse.
bass100
Start with watermelon as your base color and then add greenpumpkin until you get the darkness that you want.

Then add your watermelon green and perhaps a little chartreuse. I didn't have any white so I was using salt flour to cloud it up. I got that part pretty good it's just the color I'm having a problem with. I've got an order ready to go to get some more colors. I think I just don't have the colors I need to match this. Out of white? Here is an emergency substitute that worked for me. A block of candle color for DIY candle making from Michael's is @ $2. Put a chunk no more than 1/4 inch in diameter in 4 fl.oz. of plastic. This worked perfectly to base up a recipe. The block appears to be a thick mixture of pigment in a light parafin base. There is so little of the wax, and it is a very light wax, almost a plastic, (maybe it is?) it mixed with the plastic and I could not tell the difference in finished composition. I have had mixed results with the second fix. From Home Depot I got a shot of oil base paint pigment. I told them what I needed it for and they gave me about a 1/2 oz in my container. I am not sure about the oil base mixing on this one. I may have used too much . Well, while waiting on your order it may give you a chance at suceeding, at least something to do especially if the stores are closeby to you all. Just like a regular worm or more like a swim bait? Thanks, Greg I have not fished them yet. I plan on using as a worm and trying as a swim bait. I think if the tails are rigged flat it will give some good action or vertical as a baitfish. I have not had time to find out what works best for them yet but that is where the fun will be. robalo01
one thing I have found when mixing Watermelon/red, is that the watermelon turns a bit brownish when the fine red flake is added. I would add the flake early if you want to match something. i'll bet all you need is the Watermelon and the red flake. It's probably not that complicated.
