How Hard Can You Get The Plastic?

Recommended Posts

If you added lots and lots of hardener just how hard of a plastic can you make using plastisol? I need to make an adapter for my dust collector and was wondering if I could make a mold of what I needed and use plastisol as the material.

Thanks,

Greg

I don't think it will work. Over time the plastic will break down chemically; I'm pretty sure but I stand to be corrected.

Also; the plastic can react with other types of plastics such as styrene. I would try silicone caulking mixed with a little water. That gets quite stiff but has some flex to it.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give the silicone caulking a try.

Greg, I hope this may also help you if you need a fast set or have a very thick part to make you can speed up the drying or setting process byadding a small amount of water to the RTV that is cured with acetic acid, they smell of vinegar, DAP and walmart brands, they cure in just minutes, maybe 20 minutes when treated like this.

That quickening of the set is discussed in this thread: DIY An Instant 1/2 Rd RTV Silicone Mold For Under A Buck.
