mainbutter
Am I able to use grocery store salt and grind it into a powder via a blender for adding salt to baits, or do I need to get specialty salts online?
Richard Prager
Am I able to use grocery store salt and grind it into a powder via a blender for adding salt to baits, or do I need to get specialty salts online? That would work fine. Buy the salt with out anything added. I use Morton's Pickling salt right out of the box. Some "flour" it some don't. If you do flour it, you will get a more opaque bait. Experiment a little to see what works for you.
BBK
Sure will! I use regular non-iodized salt and it works fine at $1 per pound. I tried off brand iodized once and it turned the bait brownish.
red ranger
DO NOT use iodide salt . IODIDE CAN KILL FISH I use morton salt with out grinding it works just fine even with 1 to 1 ratio in volume for stick baits Edited January 8, 2010 by red ranger

Bait Man 2010
I use Bears Super Fine Salt.... The cost is about $ 7.00 for a gallon I think but it works good and stirs easy!
nova
Whatever salt you use make sure it's 100% pure. Table salt has iodine, sugar and other additives in it. I use pickling salt. www.novalures.com
bhorlings
Do you find that with pickling salt you get a clearer bait versus ultra fine or floured salt?
