mainbutter
So during my first time pouring I came across a couple issues I'd like to ask about. For the record I'm pouring an aluminum 2 piece 4 cavity senko mold. 1) salt settles out FAST, so fast that by the time I'm halfway through pouring a single worm, there is a significant difference in the amount of salt in the plastic at the top of the worm. I did not put my salt in a blender, would finer salt help with that at all? 2) what's the best way to do laminates with a 2 sided senko mold? Pour one side, let it cool, and then put the mold together and pour from the top? Will this cause any flowing issues or make it mroe difficult for the plastic to fill the mold? Thanks

Thanks 1) Finer salt would be better but it will still settle fast, just stir inbetween pours. 2) Go to bearsbaits.com Bear sells a 2 color injector thats perfect for laminates but it may or may not fit your molds depending on who made them. Have fun!!!

Thanks #1 try running a lower temp on your plastic to suspend the salt, if the salt is falling that fast it would seem the plastic temp is a tad to hot. #2 for laminates from a hand pour molds there are quite a few ways to do this. you can pour one side of the bait the one color just leaving it shy of the pour spout a 1/4" and slightly below the face of the mold, put mold together then pour through the hold on the one side. or you can use the split cup method where you pour to colors at one time., there are some links on the site about them ( I woudl search but it takes 4 mins for a page to come up when I am logged in). in using a split cup remember the closer the split is to the top of the cup the more accurate of a laminate it will make, ( also the closer your pour spout is to the mold helps) the farther away the split is the more of a swirl you can pour. or you can use a one color injector. lay the mold open and flat. pour the one side with one color just leaving enough room for plastic to shoot through, close the mold and shoot the plastic with an injector, your injector may require a different sided tip so it fits in a hand poured mold, you can either buy one already cut down to size or take a existing one chuck it in a drill with a bolt and nut through the hole.( you chuck the bolt) and take a corse file and turn the drill on.... Redneck lathe or you can do the same thing with the drill and then grab a hand grinder and while the tip is spinning touch it to the hand grinder or hand sander which is much faster .
