How To Glue Acrylic/plexiglass

Recommended Posts

I am trying to glue 2 pieces of 1/8" acrylic at 90 degree angle. I have tried thick super glue, and 2 part epoxy. The epoxy held for a couple of days but came apart. These pieces are 1/2" x1/2", then to a 2" piece.

Go and see your plastics supplier, for Plexy and Poly there are special clear glues which actually weld rather then just stick them together - if you are not worried about the appearance, try some blue poly pipe glue, just a SMALL amount on the edge though.Pete

I used some PVC glue on a sample piece of acrylic and I am not very patient some times. I checked it and it was still soft and then again later and it was better, then I remembered I had glued some PVC rectangle one time and it took several hours to get completly hard.

Thanks Pete, I think this might work.

I think Pete is just about right. We use a solvent weld adhesive to join PVC waste pipes, the solvent bonds the two surfaces together when it melts the plastic so the resulting joint is extremely strong. I see no reason why this would not be successful for the type of joint you are wanting to produce.
