Mercury
With the "Hot Pink" issue in the plastics area it made me wonder. went out and mixed red 5 drops and white 10 drops, mixed, cooked and hit the river. Now what I want to know is this. Do just large fish hate pink? Normaly i cast theese in white pearl, But today I poured the Pink mixture into my 3" split tail mold and went to the shallow flats that hold the duck blinds. Since this is the only structure around, I was doing a small flip right to the sides and inside the boat sheds attached to them. I seen a swirl at the corner of the blind closest to the channel, trolled over slowly, Pirched it just past the corner and swimming just past the corner it was hit hard. It was tearing the line off the reel and after all was said and done. It wasnt a bass....
Celticav
Ahh, flathead cat, very tasty! Those guys only eat live prey and are not scavengers at all, I have caught some whoppers off green jigs. Nice fish, Merc.

Mercury
Now Chris. If you like catfish that much, Come on out abd bring a big game rod woth you and a reel freshly spooled. I can get up to 60# of cat some nights. I also live about a hour and a half from the rock river and the mississippi. Flat heads there get to 40# and are quite common. ( Ima lookin for dat one) But on the Illinois river most are around 5# and up to 20# Some blues spotted over 40, Most are in the Good eat'n range. 2-6 lb My other half wants to get a fish fry going so it looks like I have to get to work on bring'n em in and cleanin em too. ( Awww man) Let me know if your gonna be out here and I wil point you in the right direction. ( ok i will show you my favorite spot) Just be prepaired! Oh and as far as glitter, I havent used much, But I will give it a try in the pink.
alsworms
Hey Mercury, What do you guys normally use to catch those flatheads?? Cats and Crappie are about the only freshwater fish I'll keep for a fish fry. Chris
Mercury
I have a throw net 4' and 3.5' that I gather shad with. The small shad work really well, 1.5-3" long. And I use cut shad as well 4"+. Going for BIG flat heads use bluegill or up to 6-8" carp. Put them just inside the holes they are laying in, and hold on..... If you hook up, you need to have that pole IN your hand or its IN the water......... But back to your question, shad mainly. Night crawlers dont attract them enough. Its a hit/miss thing then. Drum love worms, but dont hook up much on shad.
Big Splash
You guys make me jelous... we don't have catfish this far north. I remember catching one in California as a kid. It was dellicious! We have ling cod (fresh water burbot) wich is similiar, but hard to catch.

Tailor Maid
Hey merc. Don't discount Pink. My color actually is bubble gum. I have had tremendous success with it. I use both 6-8" worms and Sluggo type. I have hit good fish on worms when nothing else would catch. I was in a tourney once with a couple of guys fishing beside us. They had that look. They new something we didn't. They were throwing BG sluggos on top of floating weed mats. They couldn't reel fast enough. They wouold through it out and before it hit scream it in!. I had one with me. I tried the same thing. The bass were flying through the weeds to kill that thing!Unforunately too little too late. We boated four fish in the last half hour and had to go. They won the tourney!!!!
Mercury
I was just flabergasted that a catfish would hit a 3" split tail thats all. Havent used pink much, But with action like that looks like I will be using it more. My go to baits were always pearl white or chartreuce for the dark waters here. It was strange to see the water so clear on the Illinois river. That will change soon enough with all the boats churning up the silt. Looks like Im changing up my color selections this year.
