Really A Bargain Melting Machine!

Recommended Posts

Now I am in business, got molds, got plastic, got ebay account and now I can melt cheaply, got me some HEAT! From the looks of things I am in business as long as I spell beaver like beever or beefer or...

Guys, I got kicked out of the kitchen, I guess she did not realize she was dealling with the next Bill Gates of soft bait tackle.

I got smart and opened up shop on the patio.

Seriously I found Craigslist had many microwave ovens for sale at $10. I just got 1400 watts for $10, and that is pleanty to melt several pyrex cups of plastic at once. My kitchen 1000 watter will heat a 8 oz cup in under 3 minutes. Ten dollars, if you think about it it is likely the cheapest piece of equipment and one of the most important to making baits. I am thinking about getting another and stacking them so I can be easily running two, three colors for laminates.

I prefer the microwave to melt and I got an IR thermometer from Harbor Freight, often on sale but if you google their coupons you can find 20% off all the time, even in fishing magazines. I compared it to an Omega scientific bimetal thermometer and it was within tentsh of a degree F if held close. I had been overheating my plastic with a bimetal thermometer that was part of a multimeter.

BTW- I will make up baits for aquaintances for cost as I enjoy the hobby but never will I ruin the fun making it a business. Heck I am already working on my retirement job, keeps me busy, actually for the medical benefits otherwise I should be fishin'.

Everybody, I like to thank you for all the inspiration, conversation and fun.
