Fulldraw84
I have seen some custom rods with a logo recessed inside the end of the rod handle. I was thinking about trying it on a new rod but have no idea were to start. Is it a sticker underneath epoxy?. Is it a pre made plastic button ? Any info would be highly appreciated. Mattman
The rod companies that do that in mass prodution, have emblems made up and they just glue them in the butt. Simple when you order 10,000 of them. Builders that build on a semi production level also can do that. It isn't overly cheap though. If you want to do it on your rod...as a one-off...its a bit more work. But then again, so is building a rod. I'd put a counterbore on a rubberized cork ring. I'd paint the inside of the counterbore black. I'd drop in a printed logo...or a 3D object....a Buffalo nickel...what ever... Then I'd use a polyester casting resin and fill the counterbore. "Painting" the counterbore and object with the resin prior to pouring it in helps keep trapped air bubbles to a minimum. I suppose you could also make a mold of some sorts. Use a Forstner bit and bore a hole in a piece of plastic. HDPE, UHMW, etc. Coat the hole with mold release. Pour a thin layer in the bottom. Drop in your logo or object. And pour over the top of all that. Then use the same bit to bore a hole in the butt of your grips. West Systems makes a nice polyester casting resin. You can get it at crafts stores like Michaels. Fulldraw84
Thanks Mattman, I was hoping there was an easier answer, But thats what I thought also, I really like the idea of the nickel. I was thinking of doing this on a phoenix x-10 crank rod blank I just got but maybe will do a little more research. Thanks for the time.
