How much hardener per pot?

Recommended Posts

I recently made the switch to Calhoun plastic after getting totally annoyed with the LC stuff. I gallon out all of my plastic when I get it. I was going through my last jug recently when I realized that most of the hardener was on the bottom. I ordered some Calhoun hardener and want to know how much I should put in a pot of plastic so get normal harness baits. With the lack of the LC hardener, the plastic is too soft and falls apart very easily.

I'm sorry I've been asking some very basic questions but I've never had to use this stuff before. I normally blow through 5 gallons of plastic pretty quickly.

Hi Craig,

What formula of Lure Craft are you using? Calhoun's soft formula is a little harder than Lure Craft's 536. If you're trying to match the 502 formula, I wouldn't put any more than 1/2 cup hardener per gallon of plastic. You might even find that it's best left alone. Calhoun is a different type of plastic. Seems to be much more durable than Lure Craft, even though it might feel softer. It also handles heavy salt very well, and it will harden quite a bit more than other brands with the salt mixed in.

Mix your 5 gallon jug and transfer in to 1-gallon containers. From there, it's just a matter of shaking the jugs. I never have any hardener in the bottom of the jug with Calhoun plastic. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Never used Calhoun hardener or softener, but I know it does make a difference which brand you use. Learned that one the hard way. :)
