Alternate Hooks For Do-it Molds

Recommended Posts

Hello and thank you before hand for help, I have been pouring bucktail jigs using the Style H Jig BTH-5-A mold and don't particularly like using the eagle claw jig hooks. I like a sharper hook and tried the gami 604 but it doesn't fit quite right. Do any of you have experience using these hooks? Or advice on what other heavy wire jig hooks I can use that are comparable to the gamakatsu? And fit the mold I am using, the mold takes eagle claw 635 or 413 hooks.

Don't have that exact mold to look at, but Mustad 32786 often interchanges in 635-413 molds. If the shorter shank hook point intrudes into the high platform area of the mold faces, just cut a small slot for the point to sit in. Altering to fit the mold hook shank slot if necessary isn't that difficult. I've got 32786 1/0 thru 4/0 if you'd like to check for fit.

Thanks for your reply, my mold uses 3/0 to 6/0 but I figure that if the samller hooks fit then the larger sizes should fit aswell. the 32786 is a 60 degree hook right? If so, would it be possible to bend the hooks to a 90 degree? I don't have experience with 60 degree hooks other than using them on some of my flies when I want a little more of a swimming motion rather than vertical jigging, is this the same case with jigs? I would like to try the hooks before I buy a ton off them how much would you charge for a couple of the 3/0 and 4/0 or what quantities could you sell me?
