TackleResource
I was hoping everyone could help me compile a list of everything you need to start building custom rods. I am building my workshop and I already manufacture my own baits and tackle. IE.. Soft Plastics, Spinner Baits, Buzz Baits, Jigs, and Jig Heads. I have used kits to build rods but I want to start building a signature series of rod for my business. The only rods I have ever sold were rods that I build and wrapped and went fishing with and a buddy said ..."hey I'll give you $200 for your rod, thats sweet!" Thats happened 4 times, lol. I'm going to get custom decals made with my business name on there, custom wraps, and grips. I just need to know what tools I need to get to make the life a little easier. Thanks Everyone, Korey PS. My business is not ClearWaterOutfitter anymore so I'm not using this to help advertise.
Frank
The list you will have will not be very long. I have to many but here is what I have. A rod lathe with thread carriage to hold 8 spools of wrapping thread. A four rod drier. A 4x8' table to set up rods and place guides. A mini lathe for turning cork and reel seats. That is about all I have for rod biulding,I have been building for 14yrs or so and have a rod repair bussiness that does about 3grand a year in repairs for one tackle shop. Be prepared to pay you excise tax on these also, blank purchases are real easy to track not like plastics or jigs. If you get a chance there is a get together in woodland,WA in april a good place to be for meeting people in the know and even the best supplier I have dealt with will be there. Good Luck on your new adventure.
TackleResource
Thank you I have the rod lathe and it hold 4 spools of wrapping thread though. I would change one out when I changed colors or something. Thats pretty much all I have is that one thing lol. Anyone have anything to add?? TackleResource
One more thing!!! I just recently moved into a new house that has a workshop in the back of it. I'm trying to determine what I want to do with the workshop. How to set it up. It will have one wall for rod building, one for pouring plastics, and one for my lead baits such as spinner baits. Can anyone post pictures of their workshops so I can see how they have theirs set up??
zaugrishak5150
I have a rod wrapping jig my Dad made me, with a 3rd support stand. A tool I got from Ebay to draw a straight line up and down a blank. 2 blanks covered in epoxy and abrasive for boring grips. A wood lathe. All I have so far, but I have made a couple blanks, the last one actually looks pretty badass.
zaugrishak5150
I said I have made a couple blanks, I meant poles. I have a nondescript steelhead pole that works awesome. Not shiny, but functional. I working on an aesthetic replacement now:)
