ratstar
I need to cut my blank about 6 inches, what tool am I looking at using to do this? I thought maybe the sawzall might rip it up, chop saw might be a little overkill, I tried chewing it off, but this proved to be ineffective. What do I use? zaugrishak5150
I have hear graphite fibers are very bad for you, FYI. What I have done is wrap masking tape where I wanted to cut, and cut with a small, yet very sharp hack saw.
garyo1954
What are the dimensions of the wood you are cutting? And what wood are you cutting? A sawzall is going to bounce. A jig saw will work just as well. You'll need a compound miter chop saw to rip small lengths. You can rip easily with a table saw. A circular saw will work but that might present more danger to your fingers than you need depending on the dimensions and type of wood you are working with. Almost any hand saw will do the job safely though. I keep a small hack saw, box saw and a coping saw handy for small work.
Mattman
The best thing to cut a graphite blank with is an abrasive cut off wheel. I have a chop saw with one on it. Before I got the saw I used a Dremel with a wheel in it. I'd do a couple wraps of masking tape to give a good line around the blank. I avoid saws. You need to have very fine teeth otherwise they tend to pull apart the fibers. The higher the modulus of the blank, the worse it is.

I work with alot of metal (outside of fishing) and cutoff wheels are a dime a dozen at my place, alont with 2 chop saws, so that is very good to know! Thanks man! garyo1954
Sorry guys. I clearly was not paying attention to what he was cutting. That said, this big dummy agrees that a cut-off wheel would be your best option. And I sincerely apologize for sounding like a troll.
