Pouring 2 Piece Lizard Mold

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

This is my first time doing lizards. I have the 2 piece paddle tail from basstackle. I was wondering what the best way is to get all the feet full? Tried a real fine stream but am still getting at least one foot on each lizard that is only half full. Any tips?

if your in a cold area try heating the mold before pouring it into the mold.

Also make sure your plastic is real hot. I dont think slow is real good with such detail so move along at a pretty good pace.

If it's like most hand pour 2 piece molds with small appendages, the only way you're going to get it to fill out is by opening the mold and filling those parts and then closing it and doing the rest. Pain in the butt. Or you could get yourself an injector and inject it. The problem then is getting a tight fit with the nozzle and not squirting hot plastic all over the place. here's one answer. If you have any old silicone molds that you don't mind sacrificing, cut yourself an adaptor that has a big enough hole in the center to accept the injector nozzle. i believe that both Bear's and Basstackles will fit a hole that is 5/8 in in diameter. Place the adaptor over the pour hole and inject like crazy. The silicone acts like a seal, just don't push too hard. Yeah I know, pain in the butt too, but it works. just a suggestion, cause I doubt no matter what you do you'll have a lot of success hand pouring that mold. It's no reflection on anyone's molds, you just can't beat gravity.

You can make the adapter seal using water catalyzed RTV sealant, I did. The formula is here.

Don't sacrifice having to play around with the mold in any way! Give Kevin a call or email and maybe he will have to cut a few more vents in the feet area.

A hand pour mold is made to hand pour. Sure an injector will work but my guess is you bought the mold to hand pour so you didn't have to buy the injector.

I'd give the manufacturer a shot at figuring out what is going on. They might have others with the same issue and if nobody lets them know, the problem persists.
