You can mold the tubes with the tails finished,or you can dip a rod into the hot plastic vertically,or dip horizontally, but then you have the extra step of splitting the tails.Tubes are very easy to make, and fun.PM me your email address, and I will assist you in getting started. TBaits
(BOJON is the master at tubes, but here is the way I started making my own. Yesterday I picked up about a dozen different size needles so I can make a couple multiple dipping tools to do 6 baits at one time by connecting 6 needles to a round board and dip all at once. I hope this helps. ) I recopied this from another board I posted it on: Since I like to use tubes in bass fishing and wanted to try my hand at making sum, I ran across a way that I am going to try and see if I can make a few. Last night after pouring a few other baits, I decided to try a nifty crochet needle I picked up at hobby lobby to vertically dip one to see how it works. I thought it worked well just experimenting. I will concentrate on actually making some to use later this week. I used an empty red bull can with the top cut off and heated a little in the oven, then placed in a coozie to help insulate it. Then I poured my plastic in and coated the bottom of the crochet needle with worm oil, then dipped, let rest, then dipped til I was happy with the thickness (about 3 or 4 times). I let it cool, then slid it off the needle. The needle itself is awesome because it is aluminum, 10mm in size, and the end is the same shape as a hardball bullet (rounded cone shape). They have all sizes, I just got the 10mm til I figure out what size I want. I use a cooling rack like you would use for cookies and the hook part of the crochet hook hooks onto the rack letting it stand to cool! I think I am going to buy a few more of these and maybe make a device to dip multiples at one time. I do not do this for a business, so I am not looking to mass produce or anything. The crochet hook does get heated up, so don't touch it with your bare hands. Here are a few pics.

Lucky-o, I highly recommend taking Ron up on his offer. I learned a tremendous amount about tube making in a very short time. He provides plenty of pictures which are the easiest for me to learn from. I won't be dipping any tubes, until next winter, but will have all the stuff and fully prepared, thanks to Ron. GDille
What do you cut the tails with when you make the tubes? They seem easy to make but I have attempted it. Thanks, George
