carolinaboy
Could someone link me to a site or write up that shows step by step on how to build a drying wheel/rack. I don't know exactly what clear I am gonna use but I have been told I need a drying wheel to prevent from having it sag or build up on the bottom. I think I am going to go with Enivorntex or Devcon 2 Ton Epoxy. Don't know which yet. I some some envorntex at michael's the other day. Thanks Guys
carolinaboy
Nobody? If I were to use either of these clear coats, would you spray these, dip the lures, or apply by hand?
.dsaavedra.
both of those clear coats would be applied by hand after thorough mixing, and would need a drying wheel for optimal clear coat (not NECESSARY, but you will get the most even coat from using a wheel). i think there is a tutorial for making a drying wheel in the tutorial section of this site, which i no longer know how to access . atrophius
Just another option you might want to consider. I found a plug in rotisserie on craigslist that I use. I took the pan and heating element off so there is just the frame and the rotisserie uprights. It spins at a good speed for bait drying. I dont do a whole lot of baits at once, so I just got some dowels, put 2 holes in it so it slides on the rotisserie spikes, and zip tied some clamps on the end of the dowels. Not exactly beautiful, but its easy set up and I can coat the bait while its attached to the dowel and just slide it on the rotisserie. Easy set up for the hobby bait builder. With E-tex, you definitely need a drying wheel, unless you want to flip it manually for several hours. I suspect that watching grass growing, paint drying, or yellow cedar rotting, would be absolutely titillating by comparison. My dryer uses a rotisserie kit purchased in the Wal-Mart Gardening Dept. a few years ago, and it shows every sign that it wil turn its steady 1 rpm forever. carolinaboy
Thanks guys my Dad has a old motor off a rotisserie that I might be able to swipe from him
RayburnGuy
I'm using the turntable motor out of a scrapped microwave. It turns at 6 rpm. Got it out of a dumpster and it cost me nothing. Just something else for you to consider.

carolinaboy
Thanks Everybody for all the help. Well I went home to see my parents next town over and told my Dad that I was getting into painting Lures and I asked If I could take apart his rotiserre motor and making a drying wheel. He said, "How about I give you my drying wheel" Then I relaized that the drying wheel he used for his Rod Building days would work. Just need to get a 3/8" dowel and make the rod to hang them on the wheel is about 4-5 RPM. Here's some pics:
