arrow1b
I'm looking to pour 1/2 and 3/4 oz football head jigs. Will the lee production IV pour these? If not what would be the best pot to pour these heads with.
crawdaddy
I would recommend using a ladle. You can pour a large quantity of lead faster which is better for larger heads. I have used a Lee Production Pot but have found using a ladle produces better results and you don't have to deal with the pot dripping lead between pours. cadman
You will get a lot of responses here I'm sure. Everyone will have there own opinions. I have (3) Lee IV pots and I wouldn't trade them for nothing in the world, well maybe an RCBS pot. Anyway, yes you can pour the 1/2 and the 3/4 oz football jigs no problem. I started out ladle pouring and it is slow. I personally can pour or inject my lead molds faster with a bottom pour pot then with a ladle. I also believe it is safer with a bottom pour pot then a ladle. Yes it is true that the pots drip a little but that is such a mute point when it comes to speed and safety. This is just my opinion, as everyone uses what suits them.......Good Luck

If not what would be the best pot to pour these heads with. I would go bottom pour. I have tried them all. My thoughts are quality of lead is the key. For difficult shapes I like as pure as possible. Always pre cleaned. The dripping is no problem once you get hit by a few drops of hot lead. You learn quickly that you pour, look to the nozzle. Then look to the catch basin(which is strategically angled back to the body of the heater). If you see a drip you spin the rod. Once the dripping is secure you can open your mold and check your casting. If you see the lead stacked in the catch basin(I use an ingot mold) you toss it back into the pot. I pour lead heads up to 12oz. with no problems.
