fishermanjonk
I bought a spinnerbait mold from do-it. Ive been making jigs and the such for quite some time and am proficient at it as well. The problem im having is keeping the wire and hook in the mold prior to pouring. It never stays in the spot that i leave it. Im frustrated. Is there something that im missing? cadman
There are several things that I did that solved the problem. #1 When you put the hook on the wire form, smash the wire form with a pair of vise grips with the hook eye in side the wire form loop. This will keep the hook eye and the wire form from separating. #2 I take a piece of high temp tape and stick it over the wire form where it rests in the mold. The tape will hold the wire form in place. Close the mold and pour. If you put just the edge of the tape on the wire form you will never have to move or reposition the tape. The wire form will just move the tape out of the way when you take the poured spinnerbait out of the mold. #3 I used to lightly peen the slot in the mold where the wire form sits. By doing this with a sharp centerpunch, it will hold the wire form in as well. I don't do this anymore, because now I use different wire diameters, and the tape works much better for me. Hope this helps some. If you don't understand the tape idea I can send you some pics. PM me your e-mail. GDille
Here is a faster-than-tape solution, Cut a 2x4 to how ever long you want, the picture will illistrate this. Next Rip a piece of wood the same width as a single side of the mold. Tack the smaller piece to the 2x4. Place mold, hooks, pour, repeat. This is super easy to make/ use. I wish I had mad mine so it would hold the entire mold (handle to handle) but I wasn't sure if it would work. Mine is paited so ridiculas and has all the warnings on it to keep my family for cutting it up to just to use a saw, or start a fire with it. Thanks, George

philB
You are suffering the problems I dare say most guys who have used do_it molds have experienced. I do the same as cadman and nip the wire form hook tight onto the hook eye with pliers and as a second measure I clip a good sized split ring onto the wire shaft, this stops the whole lot sliding down into the mold when in the pouring position.
