DJS09
Hi all, My name is Dennis I'm from Port Adelaide South Australia, I've been using soft plastics for about 2 months fishing mainly for Flathead. I have come up with a few ideas for SP's that I'd like to make but I am having a bitch of a time trying to get the plastics that I need, due to companies in the US and Australia calling them by trade or company made names. Can anyone please tell me the names (hopefully chemical names) of the different plastics I need to make moulds for SP's and lead heads and also the plastics to use to make resin heads and soft plastic lures. I know I am probably repeating questions that have been asked before but I really need help. Just for peoples interest or help this is a link to where I am going to order from so please look and tell me if I can use anything : http://www.amcsupplies.com.au/catalogue/ Cheers Dennis. gone2long
Well I use RTV silicone (room temperature vulcanization) or bondo (fiberglass resin) for making molds for pouring plastic worms and the chemical name used for making worms/or baits is called (plastisol). For making molds for pouring lead I only have experience with aluminum molds (Do-It molds)
pirkfan
Do an online search for Lurecraft, Jannsnetcraft, Barlow's tackle shop, M-F Manufacturing co, Bears Baits, Basstackle.com (I'm sure there are others I've forgotten)...all these companies have some of the components needed to make either molds, or plastic baits, or both. Some of them are sponsers here. I didn't see anything on your site that looked like plastisol (liquid polyvinyl chloride ) which is the raw component of soft plastics, and the rtv you use for mold making should specifically indicate that it is relatively heat stable because melted plastisol is around 175 C (~350 F), and melted lead or tin is of course a lot hotter. Your site looked like it was more directed towards art type supplies
DJS09
Cheers for the answers, But trust me I went on to the sponsors sites wrote down every name and detail of the plastics listed, then spent 2&1/2 hors making phone calls. Basically what I was told (apart from being given more numbers to call) was I need the exact name and type of the plastics. And trust me I have given them the names on the sites of the sponsors. But they want the exact type of RTV silicone and the exact type of Polyvinyl Chloride. I am starting to realize that it would save me a lot of time and money to order it from the USA rather than hunt them down here in OZ. Cheers Dennis.
