Sniper
Looking for someone who can make a large custom injection mold. Machine injected, not hand. 50-100 cavities. I have no idea where to look and could not find anything on the net. Thanks for any information you can offer. Troy

Sniper
What type of bait are you looking for? It's a plastic worm. I already have the bait, just need to mass produce it.
jacobsbaits
It's a plastic worm. I already have the bait, just need to mass produce it. A molding press of that capacity will run you into the tens of thousands of $ to have made,
Sniper
Thanks, do you know anyone in the US that makes them?
GB GONE
You can try Kevin @ www.basstackle.com but he may refer you to Zorn. They might be your guys! Hope you have a big machine to blow these on! You might want to talk to Carolina Mike and have him make the baits for you. Jim

Just want to own the rights to the mold. If it's feasible, I would then talk to D&J or Carolina Baits. I'll check out Zorn tomorrow. Thanks again! Sniper
Thanks Bob for the reply, and yes you are right, a mold like this will probably end up costing between $4-6K. Jim, Mike from Carolina Baits called me tonight and really took the time to help me with my situation. He seems like a very nice guy and spent well over an hour on the phone with me. This production mold could definitely become a reality and I'm excited about the possibility! Thanks for the help guys and I'll keep you posted. Sniper
Just wanted to post an update on the production mold process. I learned there is a process called "reverse engineering" where a computer program scans your prototype bait and can produce the same exact bait. Then you can modify the bait if needed. In my case, I want to shorten it up a little bit. I was soft quoted 4-6K for a mold to shoot solids and laminates but the formal quote came in at $5600.00 Not a bad price but still waiting on other quotes. Have talked with Carolina Mike several times on the phone and he has been very helpful. I can't wait to start working with him. I just wanted you guys to know that it might be cheaper than you thought to go this route. For me, it makes perfect sense. I just do not have the time or knowledge to hand-pour from the house. caster
Just wanted to let you guy's know that DFD has had the lowest prices on the last three molds I have had done. Give Dallas Davis a call he will take care of you. Caster Edited May 21, 2010 by caster
Sniper
Just wanted to let you guy's know that DFD has had the lowest prices on the last three molds I have had done. Give Dallas Davis a call he will take care of you. Caster Thanks Caster, I took your advice and went with DFD. The mold has been designed and ordered. About 3-4 weeks and it should be ready to shoot. The prototypes looked and swam better than I had expected. It will be a standard 12" X 30" mold with 28 cavities capable of shooting solids and laminates. Final cost was $4K. Best price I found and nice folks to work with.

Frank I hope you have checked to ensure that no one has a patent or that the bait you are making is infringing on someone elses bait. If so it could be a big waste of your money if its being made by someone else. They could force you to stop making it. Charlie
earthworm77
I'd guess it would cost around 1K for that many cav's. What do you mean rights to the mold? Are you talking about the maker not duplicating it for anyone else or a patent? Two very different things but it stops nobody from copying your worm and having someone else make a mold of it. I would have to invest in a patent lawyer that specializes in fiahing products to do a thorough search prior to investing in large production molds. My patent searches cost me approxiamtely $750 per request. Jim

Charlie The bait that I'm "copying" is no longer in production after 20 years on the market. It did not have a patent and the owner of that bait is the one that advised me to have another mold made to the same specs. So I feel like I'm covered but please let me know if there's something else to consider. Edited August 25, 2010 by Sniper

Even though this guy is the owner of the original it wouldn't hurt to check to see if someone else is making it. If they are and can prove they had it out before you it will money thrown away. JSC
Another thought for you ... get a release ... In Writing ..... from the one that said it was OK ... JSC
GB GONE
Another thought for you ... get a release ... In Writing ..... from the one that said it was OK ... JSC I doubt a release from someone who did not have a patent on the bait would be worth anything. Someone else could have easily patented the design or the action of the bait. Look up the NetBait suit and see how many are being sued over the way wings attach to a bait. You may be surprised. Jim
