Andy Parker
I've never built lures on wire of this large diameter. I do not own a tying or wire bending tool (Boggs or otherwise). Can somebody tell me if I can bend 0.051" wire with a couple pairs of needle nose pliers? I'm hopeful the answer is YES. If not, any suggestions on which tying tool to pursue? Richoc
Yes, But you will do better with a little blue bender or a round nose pliers, a vise and a pair of vise grips. Make the loop, with a little tag end, cutting it short will be hard. Grinding it of will tare up wheels like you will not belive. The vise will help a lot when working with the heavy wire. Close the loop in the vise, to twist the tag end use the vise grips to get it going and make it tight and clean. Hagen's has heads for there machine for 51 wire. Fairwarning
Andy, This winter I started making some musky spinnerbaits and have found that the round nose pliers work fine for the .051 wire. I bought the round nose at Sears. -Chris
