rugbyfisherman
Good looking molds. Has anyone tried hand dipping tubes. I wouldn't mind trying it. I have heard that using 1/2" rod and dipping in a redbull can with the top cut off works well. I am just thinking the rod should have a rounded end? I am a newbie so any tips would be appreciated

TBaits
When I do the dipping, I use crochet needles that have a rounded end. I have a dozen or more and dip them til I get the right thickness. I split tails with a razor blade. I had a post of pics and instructions on here somewhere. I did some that were 3 inches all the way to 6 inches. Works great! Good looking molds. rugbyfisherman
Pictures would be great! I don't know how to post pictures but would I be able to dip this nose insert:? http://www.bearsbaits.com/Cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=56&products_id=156 It looks perfect for dipping and seems to have an end to screw onto for a longer reach for dipping. Sorry if that was a stupid post but I didn't think that is what they were for but could very well be used for tube dipping!
daveh
those nose inserts go on the skirt mandrel. would be to short for dipping. need a longer rod. lc sells dipping rods.

bojon
Sorry having computer trouble this AM.I would like to know how long would it take to make 100 thick tubes, adding time for tail splitting, compared to molding them with tails split.Opening, closing the mold, pouring(injecting)the plastic, cooling the mold, closing, and repeat.Running the molding process through my mind I can't see it being very fast. Will, someone who has tried both, methods what the time difference is.Faster or slower.I have this question come up on a regular basis when guys are asking for help, and I can't give a informative answer.Looking at the molds on this site they are really great.Any help would be appreciated. earthworm77
Certainly not as fast as dipping with multiple sticks but less labor intensive...no tail cutting and each tube is identical. For small quantities.....2 or 3 molds would be good. Thinknig about this for my own personal use.
smallmouthaholic
I make tubes w/Bears injection molds. I have 12 molds and an extra 12 mandrels complete. I just had a custom tube mold made and am in the process of ordering the same # of molds and mandrels. Injecting them is a learning curve for sue-too much pressure and they flash ,not enough results w/an incomplete tube. I took quite some time to master the laminates and I also dip the heads of the injected tubes in clear plastisol for extra strength. The tails undulate like no other in the water . BBK
To be able to compare, you would have to dip with ONE rod and inject with ONE mold. I would suspect the injecting would be fastest. Comparing one mold vs 10 dipping rods is not fair.

Anyone post a few pics of their tubes? love to see them.

These tubes are pressure injected and have 19 precision cut tales. These soft tubes have a head diameter of 5/8” and taper to 1/2”. The head of the tube is double thickness (dipped in clear after injecting) and the tales undulate freely. They are made from Bear’s injection tube molds. http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac263/smallmouthaholicVideos/?action=view¤t=Newfishinglurevideos005.mp4&newest=

You are injecting the tube with Bear's mold and then dipping and covering the ridges of the tube?
bojon
Do I understand correctly? You are injecting the tube with Bear's mold and then dipping and covering the ridges of the tube? WOW!Those are some fine looking tubes. Those are also some of the best colors for smallmouth around here. I know so little about this molding process that this is the really first time I can understand a bit better. Thanks guys!

Cami
Bojon, would you like to post a video where you show us your dipping system, in special the horizontal one? I tried to look for it, but I wasn't able to find till now. I'm sure that it could be useful for a lot of guys like me, whose don't want to spend money in an injection mold. Thank you in advance for your teaching. Bye Piero.
