Itty Bitty Jigs With Weed Guard

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I fished with a crappie guru. I took several hundred baits and a bunch of heads. I caught 3 fish on my stuff while he caught lots.

I finally begged some heads and baits. We wound up with over 150 crappie.

I have modified my mold to take the small hook #4 and weedguard (one fiber from an FG30. There is no way I can heat it up and powder paint it (he does).

I have spent all morining using finger nail polish on the heads (3 coats). Any of you old boys got a solution.

Don't even think about pouring and drilling that small of a hole.

Woops, I didn't read close enough the first time. I make those kind but don't paint them.

Jig Man,

I want to make the smaller jigs for soft plastic baits that have a small weed guard. What molds are you using? How do you modify them? Can you post pics for details? Thanks for helping a fellow fisherman. Fish On!

The wire that allows one filament of FG30 is .035 my spinnerbait wire is .040. I cut a small piece of spinnerbait wire and used scotch tape to hold it where I wanted the weedguard. I clamped the mold down solid in a vice so that the wire would indent the mold. I did this for all 4 cavities.

Now I can put 1/2" pieces of .035 wire in the slots and pour away. Thanks to fred. I don't know if pics will show up but I'll try.
