bobothewizard
Im not sure if this is the right forum for this but I was wondering what rod you guys use for throwing the smaller 4.5 inch plastic swimbaits? Right now im using a 7 foot BPS medium baitcaster rod and I dont think it has enough ass to it to actually stick em right. It seems like im getting alot of short strikes on my swimbaits, now i added a number 4 treble hook as a stinger. Gotta fish a big fish tournament tonight hoping that that new treble will stick em for me Edited June 29, 2010 by bobothewizard

Gotta fish a big fish tournament tonight hoping that that new treble will stick em for me I use a med. heavy telescoping BPS Woo Daves rod that I have had for years. My first criteria in picking a rod is will it cast the lure easily and accurately. My second is will it have enough back bone to embed whatever hook I'm using. I fish small plastic swimbaits, and hard swimbaits up to 7"/2 1/2oz, with that rig, and it's fine.
D.J.
I like the 7'3" Kistler Magnesium Small Swimbait rod. It is sweet!
mainbutter
For my 5'' hook slot swimbaits (mold from lurecraft) I use a 7'' (I think, might be 7'6''?) medium power rod IM6 graphite rod from gander mountain.. I can't remember the model name, but it wasn't too expensive. A medium power rod has done just fine for me in sending 5/0 swimbait hooks home, but a MH would certainly do the job better. I can just cast these swimbaits farther with this particular rod. For my 5'' line through style swimbaits from basstackle, I use a MH tiger lite ugly stik, they're just heavy and bulky enough I want a little more backbone for casting.
