plastic pouring recomendations?

Recommended Posts

NTP, take some time and look around the archives. As far as good colors, check the post at the top of the plastic forum 'Plastic Cookbook'. Those are some of the more popular colors that guys have asked about in the past. Also look down the page for a thread 'favorite color'. As far as softener goes, we would need to know what type of plastic you are using and how much at a time. Glad to have you aboard :)

My 2? ...

Softener use really depends on what kind of bait you want to make and if you want it to hold up for more than 1 strike or not. The good part is that the hook will stick the fish faster, the bad part is if they are too soft they won't hold up to underwater structure or bties and you will go through too many worms too fast. Too much softener will lower the overall strength of the bait and make it prone to tearing. I like straight LC 536, but have had to use a dash of softener before. It really depends on the batch of plastic..

I find that the LC 502 is plenty soft for most jobs..they are some special baits that I add a little softner..but very few this is a soft product without adding any thing..

for Musky trailers I use forumla 500 this is a much tougher and harder plastic but the lures hold up better when used as a trailer..

I very much agree with the last post.. how hard or soft a bait needs to be really depends on its use..

the biggest thing I see novice bait makers do wrong is over heat the plastic.. you can use a little heat stablizer to help in this area..

if your using a hot plate or some type of stove to heat your plastic take the time to see where it needs to be set to get your plastic at the right temp..350 is what I have found does a good job they may be some other people that have good success that can ad their findings

good luck
