earthworm77
I have a Bears 4.5 swimbait mold. I'd like to make a clear color body with a black lateral line. I am thinking in order to do this I would have to dip the insert black and then inject my body color.....is that how you do it?

Frank
If you are wanting a thin line you will dip the top or bottom of the insert. If you dip the whole thing it will be a large line( more like a core ). Dipping the top or bottom is a bit of a challenge with the whole in the end. It would be nice to some how put a line down the middle of the insert. Edited July 11, 2010 by Frank

Adhere the strip to the middle of the insert, then shoot. Or, possibly, melting the ends of the strip together to create a rubber band and slipping that over the insert? If it was a tight enough fit, it might just stay in place. You might have to put a notch in either end of the insert to hold it in place. Good idea I will have to try that out and see if it is works because if it does you can make differant bands to make a multy color stripes in the same bait. Now the wheels are turning. Thanks for the idea. Frank
earthworm77
I could probably drip a thin line on the top edge of the insert
Richard Prager
I could probably drip a thin line on the top edge of the insert Hey Craig........good to see you back around here and good luck with the hand injection! You might try dipping just the edge. I believe some guys also paint the edge. I'm not sure what type of paint they use. Maybe someone else will chime in. nova
Here's a couple of ideas for you guys. Pour out some plastic on a metal tray making sure it's level and the plastic is thin, say 1/16" thick. Cut it in 1/8" stips. Wrap this around the insert like a barber pole; then pour the bait. This may look like a string of guts insde the fish. Another one would be to paint the insert with highlite powder and then pour the bait. I love a mind challenge. www.novalures.com
Troul Hawk
Hey Gang, Here are a couple of shots of my first ever swimbaits using the injector. I couldn't help myself and tried a dipped blade before injecting and the only thing I wish I woulda done was paid better attention to which side was the dorsal side of the bait, DUH. Well, at any rate I am happy with the results, these are a dirty pearl color with 1/2 chartreuse and 1/2 grey dipped blade. It would be totally easy to dip the blade early in black and then cut a strip out with an exacto knife to make it a very thin line.
earthworm77
Hawk, thats not bad, I kinda thought that would be the best way to approach it. A few good ideas, I'll let you know what works for me. Rich, IM me...your not pouring anymore?
