Backwater4
I joined a couple of weeks ago and lurked for a while. I've learned a lot of good info from the site and hope I can contribute some. My main tackle making is in the form of jigs and buzzabits, but I'm starting to branch out into spinerbaits and possibly some airbrushing. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I'm looking to wrap wire around my skirt collars to make the jigs hold up better. Is there a specific way of doing this? Thanks. smalljaw
Welcome to the board Backwater4, if you use the search and type in wire tying skirts you may find something as it is a topic that comes up every now and again. I used to wire tie skirts but I like to change them from time to time and the collar is easy to slip off but if you want to tie with wire it isn't hard and everybody does it a little different. I use a skirt collar to make my skirt and then I put it on the jig as normal but then I take my wire and bend it around the skirt above the rubber collar, it should look like a "u", next I take both ends of the wire and make 1 wrap in opposite directions then the skirt is on enough that I can slip the collar off and make 2 more wraps the same way as the first, now you can take the ends and make 2 twist around and cut close to the skirt and its done! When you make your wraps remember to make sure they are tight, I like to make the wraps as tight as I can by hand and then twist the wire together with a pliers to make it good and tight and secure, you should get some more instruction from the other guys shortly. Backwater4
Thanks for the replies. That helped a bunch. I just tied some with some thin copper, but didn't like them. Found a little thicker stainless wire and they came out real nice. Thanks for the help. I'll try to post some pics as I do more.
Jig Man
I use the copper wire because I had a table saw motor shoot craps. I use the windings from it and it looks like I will have a 20 year supply of wire.
