JD
Hi folks, I am having a problem with the visibility of the glitter in my baits. As long as I make a fairly transparent color, the glitter is pretty visible. But, when I make a black or other dark color, the glitter isn't very visible because very little is near the surface of the bait. Most problems occur with the larger .035 glitter. I am using about 1-1.5 tsp glitter to a cup of plastic. Does anyone have recommendations on getting glitter closer to the surface or other ways to improve the visibility of glitter? Thanks JD
nerdy
stir it right before you pour so that it is thoruoughly mixed. you could also put the glitter in the plastic right before you pour. or put some glitter in the mold... it gives my swimbaits a nice belly shine. siebler_custom_baits
Well what color glitter are you adding? Black with a blur or red ao green or other light colors shoud be ok if you add more. Also like nerdy said, mix it. Keep it mixed the whole time or you will get plastic with lots of glitter at the end of the pourings.
the_hide
I only make two piece molds so take it with a grain of salt but I'd add it directly to the mold just before pouring like Nerdy said. Your going to use a lot less glitter than youm would if you threw it in while heating it up.
siebler_custom_baits
See i have never had a good time with adding the glitter to the mold. I also pour production so when you are trying to pour a few hundred baits in a hour it isnt worth adding glitter to the molds.
kidlizard
Lets take black with blue flake for example. We use 1 tablespoon of .35 per cup of plastisol. More than that becomes hard to pour. My question is would smaller flake be more visible because you actually would have more surface area of flake in a tablespoon? To make it simple has anyone had better luck with smaller flake??? thanks John
JD
I've had better luck with smaller flake in my darker colors. They seem to suspend better than the larger flake and appear more uniform, especially on the surface of the finished bait. I started this post after having difficulty pouring a black with .035 blue flake. How much black do you add to a cup of plastic that has 30-40% salt in it as well? I'm starting to think my black is too black and thats why I can't see the flake very well.
