patrick reif
Is there a source to buy a 5-6 cavity 3/16oz football jig mold with insert for fiber weedguards. I could handle a 1/8oz and 3/16oz combo mold if push comes to shove, but I can't find what I want on line unless I have the mold carved for me, and that's big bucks. The standard molds from Do-It aren't what I want, but I may go that route to save the money Sorry if this question has been asked a dozen times
BBK
3/16? thats really light for a football, cant imagine someone selling a mold for just 3/16. Come to think of it, I can not even think of a place to use a 3/16oz around here, most places are way too deep to keep solid bottom contact with a 3/16. Good luck, but I think that would be the type of mold you need to get custom made.
patrick reif
the majority of the waters I fish are less than 5' deep and extremely rocky. I work a jig on a deadstick retrieve in the current...river smallmouth angler, nothing else. There is a niche for this type of jig at an affordable rate. Let's face it, fishing molds are a cottage industry, and carvers are serving the majority of buyers. I understand that on a business level, but I need an affordable mold to do what I want. I can't afford a custom mold right now Edited August 25, 2010 by patrick reif
smalljaw
I feel your pain Patrick, I make thousands of 1/8oz and 1/4oz jigs every year for river smallies and the river I fish 1/4oz is on the heavy side most areas as it tends to get wedged in rocks. I'd like to find a mold with 6 cavities in 1/8oz and 3/16oz would be good also, a big difference in fishing a shallow rocky river compared to a lake. mkvnmtr
On a production run I sometimes use 2 or 3 molds, Mainly to keep from getting to hot but that might be your answer. Two Do-It molds is still cheaper than a custom mold.

Football jigs should always be in contact with the bottom, you just drag it along the bottom and over rocks. The head is designed to walk right up over the rocks. I dont know what lake fishing is, I fish the mighty mississippi river.
Musky Glenn
In a pinch you might be able to take a 1/8 oz. ball head mold and bore out each end to get the football jig shape. Eye will probably stick up higher than a normal football jig head. Just a thought. Musky Glenn
