cadman
Ok guys I know someone has the answer and can help me here. I am looking for a (3/0) 60° flat eye hook. This hook is a sproat hook and is used by the Jewel Bait Co. on the Jeff Kriet Squirrel Head jig. The hook diameter is only .032” (1/32”). I have looked at Mustad and their 32798 and 32893 hooks are .046” thick. Can someone tell me who makes this hook for them and where can I get it? Here is a link of what the hook looks like. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Jewel_Bait_Jeff_Kriet_Squirrel_Head_Jig_3pk/descpage-JBSHJG.html Thanks for all and any help Edited August 26, 2010 by cadman

cadman
Basseducer, I most have read that at least 5 times. Sucks to get old..........Thanks, now I see the word custom.
reeves
Ted, Looking at Kriet's jig, it appears to me, and I could be wrong, that it has a 45* hook in it not a 60*, which might make it a 38108BLN or a 38109BLN. One of those two numbers should be the light wire version. I traced it out on my monitor screen and matched it to a 45*. I have a spin mold for that style head but I need to check the hook # that it takes, pretty sure it is a light wire. George

I do have the jig at home and didn't bother to chaeck the angle. Guys now I know I'm getting old, I don't even have all the facts to post the correct questions. I do have the 38108 and 38109 hooks at home and profile wise they are not even close, and they are thicker. I think I would do some more looking. Last time I checked it took real money and a very large production run to actually have a real custom hook made. I asked several hook manufacturers. I've also got a buddy with a "secret" bait rig who spent a little more time digging and he came up with the same answers I did. Bob, I e-mailed Shorty's hooks and they were kind enough to look into this for me. These hooks are proprietary to Jwel Bait and can not be sold. The only way to get them is to have my own made, and at 10,000 min. lot, I don't think I could use that many in my lifetime. Thanks Guys for all the help. warflures
Have you thought about getting a strait worm hook and putting the bend in it yourself. I have had to do that in the past for some of my jigs.
cadman
Did you look on the Mustad Site? http://www.mustad.no/catalog/na/product.php?id=2663 http://www.mustad.no/catalog/na/product.php?id=2320 I'm sure I'm pointing out the obvious and that you already checked, but my point was if you have to buy 10,000 lots for a truly custom run of hooks so did they. Its entirely possible they just took some marketing license in their description. And even if their hooks really is custom maybe one of these I posted links for will do for you instead. Bob, I checked the other hooks out and they would work except my customer wants a really thin wire. Have you thought about getting a strait worm hook and putting the bend in it yourself. I have had to do that in the past for some of my jigs. Your idea has crossed my mind, taking an aberdeen hook and twisting the eye. Although I've done this in the past (in an experiment) by heating the hooks, this is not something I want to do for a 1000 hooks. Also its not recommended to be twisting hooks even if you heat them, as you have to have a good process and know how heat affects steel within the hardening process.
