hookset1
What plastic to buy????? That is the question of the day for me....I was looking into Calhoun's soft for making stik worms...Alot of people seem to use it, so I thought it was a sure fire thing to try out...I was going to order and before I did I read an article that kinda bashed it alittle...Saying it burns easy and it smells real bad.... All I want to know is what compay has good plastic...I know it is a preference, but I just want to know what to stay away from and the few good company's to look into...Any help would be awsome I am trying to order this tonight!!!!! Calhoun's,Chemionics,BB whatever from bears, Del's LoDuro, I have no clue!!!!!!!
GDille
Ask for some free samples, if they will not give you one, they aren't worth your business. You may have to pay shipping, but that is better than having 15 pints of a plastic you don't like after you wasted one trying to get things right. GDille
Just ask for a free sample, I got several when I was looking for my plastic and chose Bear's plastic in the end, no mixing and its tough. But don't let me or anyone else make YOUR choice.

powerworm
the super soft from calhouns has an odor but it is by far the most consistent blend out there. i use bears old formula bbcp soft. it was available before before he came out with the ultra blend. just remember with anything other than bears ultra you will need to mix it thoroughly. you can go back in the archives here or dels or bears sites and see all the times someone thought they knew what they were doing and didnt do something right ..just a lil fyi read up
GB GONE
M-F requires absolutely no shaking or stirring. They supply to companies like Yamamoto, Basstrix, etc. Just a slight mix every now and then. Ozark Plastic is very good for sticks also.... Check them out as there are some big differences in formulas and some are not as advertised! There really isn't a BEST as they all have unique qualities to them. Jim Jim, I'm into my last gallon of Del's LoDuro, and would like to look at what else is available. Two questions. First (and don't laugh), what does M-F stand for? Second, I remember reading that there was a new plastic that didn't have phalates in it. Do you have any info on that?
GB GONE
Sorry Mark.. M-F Manufacturing There is a list somewhere on TU of the manufacturers. I need to hunt the link up again. The "green" plastisol or phalate free is an LC (Lurecraft) product. I was put off by the settling out of the parts but the resulting baits are nice. I like to just go pour, not mix and stir and scrape.. I do though for some stuff as I do use LC plastisol along with others. Jim

Have you used the M-F sinking plastics? Is it soft, or do you have to add softner? I like to pour clear Ikas, and not having to add salt would keep them clearer, and, hopefully, softer. For me, the key to a good hookup ratio is very soft plastic. Edited September 2, 2010 by mark poulson

Sinking plastic does not eliminate the need for salt. You just need less. I do know that those who use it say you can get a more transluscent bait for things like senkos. Jeff can help you out at M-F. Jim

I figure it's worth the money to try it, and I think the phthalate is in the softner, from what I've read online, so buying the super soft green should help me avoid it. I can always add weight to get it to sink.

I just got a gallon of Chemtronics med. and some softner. Much better durability, a dry soft texture and pours very easily. I am mainly pouring ribbon tail worms but have injected some craws and trick worms also. So far I really like this stuff.
thelatrobe33
I have used M-F super soft and Chemionics Medium thus far. M-F is by far the most expensive out there, but if you don't buy directly from them you can find it cheaper (hint, hint). It is nice, but way too soft IMO. Needs about 2:1 ratio plastic to salt to get tough enough. The Chemionics medium is really great for a bit less money. I will get the Chemionics Hard next, as I haven't yet found one I think is as durable as I'd like.
