ethan3
Hey, I am going to get a new spinning combo and thought I would ask for some advice on what to get. I like using weightless worms like senkos, trick worms, etc. I also like shaky heading a lot. What rod would be good for these. I have been looking at Carrot stix, the skeet reese shaky head/senko rod, or maybe a Falcon Bucoo. Which do you guys think would be good? As for the reel, I really like the looks of either the Abu Garcia Soron STX or the Quantum catalyst pt. Have any of you used any of these? if so, how do you like them? Thanks, Ethan
BobP
I had one of the Quantum Catalyst spinning reels and it gave good service. Nice smooth reel and I like the titanium bail and magnetic bail system (no bail spring to break!).
Ric670
I have a shimano crucial and love the sensitivity on the tip...i use a crucial for all my spinning gear and have it paired with a shimano reel...i have not lost many fish due to it either....I had a carrot stick but would give it up in an instant for the crucial...some other rods look fancy..bucco the vendettas the carrot stick but i would go with the crucial over any of em....for my casting gear i have a vendetta a carrot stick and a dobyns....and love each of em for the different rigs..the dobyns for my swimbaits a st croix for my spinnerbaits a carrot for my cranking and the vendetta for my jig work..but that crucial spinning rod for the money is aces... but thats just me...m sure there are a bunch of better anglers here who will say m nuts... bassnbrad
This one you will have to figure out by going and picking up the rods and geting a "feel" for them. I concur about the Crucial, inexpensive yet covers a wide range of baits and uses. My personal favorite Stick skipping rod used to be a 7' All Star with about 4 inches of the tip broken off and retipped. Sensitive Plenty of backbone to get the fish out from under the docks yet enough give when a big fish headed to deeper water. Nonboater went to net a big fish for me in a tourney and ended its fishing days though. Could not get too mad though, That 10.23 turned out to be a $500 fish. earthworm77
The Crucial is a great rod. Definately fish's better than more expensive rods. Curado E7 reel with that?
airbrushextreme
I have the new Skeet Reese Honeycomb tube jig and really like it for skipping tubes and shakey heads under docks as well as wacky rigged senkos and flukes as well as lightweight scrounger and sworming hornets I also have the Falcon Cara squirrel tail rod its a little on the lighter side of the spectrum but fishes the squirrel tail/head rig and the drop shot nicely as far as reels I like us reels 230 sx and the shimano saros 3000 they handle braid mono and fluorocarbon equally
rugbyfisherman
I have a highly recommended set-up for you. I would buy a Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500 spinning reel, with a Shimano Crucial CRC-X66M - with the split grip handle! I bought this rig mid-summer and haven't been able to put it down. The Stradic Ci4 is simply amazing and it will cast a weightless senko a mile with no effort (no hyperbole). The crucial is suppose to be a drop-shot specific rod but I love it for all finesse fishing. There is a large section of exposed graphite blank on the grip and behind the reel seat that allows you to feel everything. The reel is amazingly light and the entire combo weighs in just under 10 oz. Great if you fish long days! Although you will never and I mean never go back to a heavy combo again, just a heads up;) Edited September 24, 2010 by rugbyfisherman

patrick reif
there's a guy on e-bay that's selling Kistler Heliums for $140 a pop with $18 shipping. Do a search there and have a look. It's a great buy
