gaspumper
How long does it take you guys to pour, paint, bake, and double eye your jigs (two colors)?I do 336 three quarter ounce walleye jig, that's all my rack will hold of that size,in 4hrs 15 min.I pour 1000 of 1/4-3/8-1/2-and 3/4 ounce in Sept.and Oct.then tie them (deer hair) in the winter time,to get ready for the spring season.Wondering if there is a faster way to pour and paint. Never tried to see how fast I can go, I'd rather go at an "enjoyable" pace, but I can understand your point. If your not worried about the rough spot, try cutting the sprue off the jig when it comes out of the mold and apply your powder right away while hot? cadman
I will agree with BLT. I don't time myself. It all depends what you want your jigs to look like. I polish my jigs so they are flawless when I paint and sell them. Many guys just cut the sprue really close to the jig, and leave a parting line if any on the jig and paint away. The fish really don't care one way or another. Fortunately or unfortunately I'm really anal about the quality of my jigs, so I would rather have quality. It's a personal choice to each of us and whatever you're happy with.
psv
Same as BLT & Cadman. I never rush myself. I also polish with sand papers all of my heads. Jigs or spinnerbaits. No rough spots and any kinds of lines accepted. They must be 100% smooth, before painting. It takes a lot of times, but it's custom work for god sake. It suppose to be way above average serial lures. I can't compete with Chinese or other factories by quantity, but I can beat them by quality and uniqueness. This is my personal choice. Real Deal Custom Tackle
+1 one to the 3 above. Never timed myself, probably quite slow compared to what you have posted. However, I have had just about all my customers comment on my paint durability vs. the manfac. ones. It takes time, but as said above, it's custom. That's what my customers are ordering. Anything else they can buy at BPS or wally world. Edited October 8, 2010 by Real Deal Custom Tackle
