bassbandit25
Hey guys i've been playing around making my own jigs for a while. Now i wanna try useing wire to tie the skirts on but i have no idea how to go about it. My dad said hes tried with no success and that the wire always cut the silicone. So what kind of wire do i need thats strong and i can work with it easily. Also how do you tie it off without leaving some wire hanging off. If theres a video or something please send me the link thanks!

Real Deal Custom Tackle
I use 24 ga. coated copper wire. Any wire in or near that size will work. I have used string and wire both. Both have their advan/disadvan. As far as cutting the silicone, I actually have that happen more with string than with wire. Make a couple wraps, then twist the ends till tight. You will just have to get a "feel" for what is tight. You will have some too loose and will have some break before you get the hang of it. Just cut the tag end and bend over what is left. Band your skirts, place on jig, tie them off, then cut or slide off the band. This will allow you to move the strands to exactly where you want them before you tie them off. Hope this helps. airbrushextreme
I use soft jewelers wire I have used it for a while I use a double wrap and twist it 3 rotations to tighten it and snip it off in the twist. this is an easy way to tie jig skirts I use a zebra ink pen with a piece of heavy braid in a loop to hold the skirt material in place until I am finished with the skirt then wrap it with the wire
JSC
I have been using Wire from "Living Rubber" for years have not made an effort to find it some where else. It is Galvanized Steel Wire ... 24 gauge x 100 ft. It is just "Soft" enough to work with. I slip the skirt on with a skirt collar ... make 2 wraps .. put a twist then use a safety wire tool to twist ... to a good tight "twist" .. clip it so that I have a short twist left and bend back on wrap ... slide the Skirt Collar off ... am working on a system to replace using the skirt collar .. when I am satisfied I will post the details. Hope this helps a little JSC Edited October 13, 2010 by JSC
airbrushextreme
try the pen trick I use I use a zebra metal ink pen remove the cartrige bit leave the pocket clip in place replace it with a pull pin from an egg sinker mold and pour a stainless condiment cup full of lead around the bottom side after this cools I dip it into rubberized coating I then tie a piece of braid to the pocket clip and thread it thru the pen making a 3"loop and pass it back thru the hole I then put a carolina keeper on the braid at the bottom of the pen. now all I do is loop it around the skirt at the bottom tighten the loop by snugging up the keeper and it hangs and holds the skirt in place It sounds harder to do than it really is I used to use the band but this is easy on easy off and speeds up production

JSC
when I am satisfied I will post the details. Hope this helps a little JSC The Following is using with an "O" Ring which is a lot easier to remove and not wasting "Bands by cutting them off (Bands are hard to just slide off). You can use an "O" Ring many times. JSC
