BangerLures
Hi guys, I am moving away from casting with lead because of the lead ban that is going to be happening up in mass in 2012. I purchased 7 lbs of tin/bismuth alloy. It has a melting point of 281F, I usually powderpaint my jigs. So I tried the powder on the tin/bismuth and it just didnt work well. Does anyone use this alloy to cast with? And if you do how to you finish your lures? Thanks, Dan
Ogajiga
The 281*F melting point is too low for efficient powder paint heating, altho I've heard it can be done with precision temp control heating just below the MP. Pure tin MP 450*F or bismuth 520*F would be more powder paint friendly. Liquid vinyl & epoxy paints, even nail polish will adhere to BiSn alloys. But... My ace field tester & I concur that the shine of pure tin and alloys with no less than 10% tin is a bite attractant and painting is functionally unnecessary.
