Lure Painting Color Setup?

Recommended Posts

I'm just starting making and painting my own lures, spinnerbaits specifically. I'm trying to come up with the best set of "base colors", both airbrush and powder. If anyone has some go-to colors, if you would help me out I'd appreciate it. This is too expensive to buy the wrong colors right out of the gate!

Thx, b

birdley,

This is a tough question to answer as every lake has certain colors that definitely work, sometimes work and never work. The correct answer to your questions would be to find out what colors work on your body of water that you are going to fish. These are the colors that work for me on our gin clear lakes. White, silver and black in early Spring(March). Black/blue, green pumpkin, black, black/purple (April through September) and brown/orange, black and PB&J from October to November. This is also relative to certain years as I have found that some colors for some reason do not work some years and I don't know why. I have a lot of different colors for every occasion. I know things are expensive, but if you are going to fish you should be prepared for anything. No point in going on a lake without a white jig if the fish that day are biting white. When I go fishing I try to find where the fish are and what colors they are biting. That is the only way to put fish in the boat. Good luck
