alternative to Mod Podge

Recommended Posts

Valspar gloss coat works far better than Mod Podge to coat plaster molds.

It's water soluble, coats smooth and even and stays tough. No more peeling after a dozen pours and the surface is harder than nail polish.

A small can will last for years. (Got it a Home Depot.)

Have any of you ever used a product called "Seal-All"?

It comes in a small tube. It's made by a company called Eclectic Products Inc. out of Pineville, LA.

I thin it down with acetone and brush it on, giving three coats and drying in between.

I had used it before to seal gas tanks so I figured if gas won't hurt it whats a little heat. Works great and sells for a couple of bucks(even better)

Can't wait to try it - am assuming the heat doesn't affect it and you don't have to use any oil or anything to get the plastic to release? I haven't made any molds for a year or so. In the past I've used two part RTV (blue stuff used for making molds that costs a fortune) for coating molds made from Durham's water putty - works pretty good but have had a few minor peeling problems.

I use Envirotex, Im pretty sure it comes from the states. Its a two part epoxy that sets like concrete. Doesn't peel and when applied in 2 or 3 light proportions detracts very little detail from the mold. I bought only the tinniest little bottles and I've hardly made dent into the stuff and I've got nearly 40 good 2 piece molds covered and probably another 40 I threw out in anger.
