Wire Bait Swap Q & A

Recommended Posts

O.K. I am changing hook brands! I need to know what brand and type of hook that Basskat is using on his spinnerbait and buzzbait. These things are sharper than my gaga..ga.....gamakatsu! I can't believe I just typed that! Seriiously, Basskat these hooks are awsome. How well do they hold up? If these things hold up as good as Gammys I'm sold.

Just sifted through the swap package.........you all make some really nice stuff out there.

I am impressed by the workmanship, and the talent that frequents this board.

Markell, I like the looks of your jigs. The skirting on the pumpkin jig is Kamoflash, yes?

Outstanding, all.........lets do it again soon!

Markell, that's an Owner hook. They hold up well. I used to use the Gammies in all my baits but this Owner hook fits my molds better. This hook is also cheaper than the Gammie and my customers like them as well if not better.

Now my question, Markell you may have sent it, someone sent a spinnerbait with a hammered willowleaf (gold blade) that had a rattle built in it. Where did you get these? Also the red, white, and blue bait is neat. My little lady say I can't use it! LOL

I have never used Owner hooks before. I will be placing an order for some of those. I wish I could take credit for that spinnerbait. That was a FatRatz bait. I was also going to inquire about the rattle blade also. That was the first one I have seen. Can't wait to try it. I have a question about the Red, White and Blue spinnerait. What type of paint was used to paint the blades?

Hey guys, the rattle blades come from Lakeland Inc. They come in a size 4.5 and 5 in both gold and nickel color. You can also buy them from Barlows Tackle. I have not had time to try them myself but a friend who does some testing for me used one last year and first cast a stripper took of with it and never got it back.

OK So i am siting in my room playing with all the lures and trying to find space for the jigs ( due to the fact i have soo many of my own in my little BPS Finesse binder, which thanks to you guys i have to get a bigger one :D ) and i decide to go out and atleast start on all the skirts i will need for the next trade. Unfortunatly i will not have black rubber for another 5 weeks but will be getting other colors tomorow. I say the next swap is smaller and we all make more baits then this time. Since i only sent 1 this time i will be sending at the least 3 per person next time. I guess i will need some more eyes because i ordered the wrong size this time.

And by the way, who made the black buzz w/ the eye on the bottom of the bait? I really took interest in that one and the 3 bladed spinner.

AS for the jigs the one that will be used the most will be the ones from capt. Mike. Can you say HALIBUT? Iknow that the jig does!!! :P

I just have to say "Hats off" to you guys, great stuff. I learned alot from this one and really look forward to the next one. I had alot of help from my wife in sorting the packs out so still haven't had time to go thru my goodies yet but so far have to say:

Fat Ratz as usual you are one of the best I have ever seen! I never get tired of your creations. I was fortunate to recieve a bait from Fat last year with one of these rattle blades and really like it, be very careful using any bait from FatRatz...they are very addictive and have been known to cause severe face injury to largemouth and smallies.

jigmaster really impressed me, I can't put these baits down! Let me get healed up and ready for the water and you can expect to hear from me about getting some more of your jigs.

basskat's spinners and buzzers are solid, well-made and very dependable. The Owner hooks are my favorites too, besides the regular hook, thier Cutting Point is the best hook I have ever seen for spinners and buzzers hands down. A little pricey but worth every penny.

Markell's jigs went straight from the packaging to my tacklebox

DeadlyStreamer I love that lure! Way too versatile and good on multiple species too: this one became one of my favorite lures awhile back so was a real joy to get these.

Gr8Flz you have a true talent with lead baits and tying. Really neat light jig that is about to get an aquarium test...I have to see the action, awesome design. Do you make larger versions of these too?

I still have some others to go thru but have enjoyed them all so far, JIM

Jim, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like them.

Tying those jigs is just like fly tying, and I've done a little of that too!

Most I make are 1/16, 1/8 or 1/4 oz, but I can make some smaller or larger sizes and on other heads styles as well. Just let me know if you're interested. :D
